Lawrence Meals On Wheels

Lawrence Meals on Wheels provides hot nutritious meals to the homebound elderly &/or disabled, residing in Lawrence, who have a special dietary need &/or are unable to prepare their own meals. We are the only program in Lawrence that can provide specialized diets such as diabetic, low fat, renal etc. We are also the only program that serves those under 60 year of age.

Our service helps our clients maintain their independence and remain in their own homes as long as possible. We not only deliver meals which are vital to their health, but also a daily point of contact and socialization for those that might otherwise not have one. Our drivers are not only delivering meals but are checking to make sure the client is okay every day. For some of our clients, our drivers are the only social contact they receive. 

The mission of Lawrence Meals on Wheels is to provide food service for the aged, convalescent and/or disabled residing in Lawrence, Kansas, in order to remain independent in their own homes as long as possible. 

Since our inception in 1970, Lawrence Meals on Wheels has been continuously serving meals to those in need. In 54 years of service we have not had to turn anyone away regardless of their inability to pay for our services. In recent years approximately 85% of our clients are unable to fully pay for their meals. We rely state and federal funding, grants and private donations to feed our neighbors in need.

We currently serve approximately 150 meals a day on 21 routes, with the help of over 125 volunteers per week. We deliver Monday-Friday, everyday of the year except New Year's Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Friday after Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.  All clients that want services on Thanksgiving and Christmas are referred to L.I.N.K.
