Have you heard of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program? VITA sites offer free tax help to people who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns, including:
- People who generally make $69,000 or less
- Persons with disabilities
- Limited English-speaking taxpayers
- People who are 60 years of age or older
The Shawnee County VITA Program is administered by K-State Extension Shawnee County. This is an informational event for potential volunteers: tax preparers, interpreters (especially Spanish), IT assistance, and greeters. No experience required; training is provided. Shawnee County VITA tax season runs February-April every year.
