Description

Thanks to the Merc Change Program, Hidden Valley Camp is embarking on a large pollinator initiative to greatly increase wildlife habitat for pollinators of all kinds, with a special emphasis on monarchs. Two Monarch Way Stations will be developed, using seven species of milkweed. Over 1,000 native plants representing 26 species of wildflowers will finish off the project. The ultimate goals are: to diversify our native offerings and increase habitat for pollinators and other wildlife; to provide educational opportunities for our youth and adults; to spread awareness of the importance of planting native; and to host monarch tagging events in the fall for Scouts and families, in conjunction with our September workday.
The project will kick-off on Earth Day, April 22nd, with an all-day planting event. Garden groups and others are invited to help plant from 10 am to 2 pm or later, with Girl Scout troops coming for late afternoon.  Individuals and groups should RSVP to sign up for a specific time and will receive details then. In case of rain out, additional planting days are: April 26, May 3 and May 9th.
