By Your Side Volunteers provide comfort and compassion at the bedside of an actively dying hospice patient. BYS Volunteers provide relief for the family &/or a caring presence to a patient who does not have family at bedside. These Volunteers assist us in meeting our goal for no patient to die alone.
BYS Volunteers go through our general Patient/Family Care Volunteer training and then an additional direct By Your Side training. These Volunteers are part of a "calling tree" and may be contacted Monday through Friday between 8am - 8pm. Typically Volunteers receive just 1-2 calls per month to serve and only do so if they are able. BYS volunteers sit for a 1-2 hour vigil and are relived by staff or family. Each volunteer provides their availability and will not be called if it is during a time they have marked as unavailable.
**Due to COVID, we are unable to make face-to-face visits at this time. We do have volunteers working on cards and phone calls, and now is also a great time to get trained!
