What happens when a survivor of domestic violence decides to leave a dangerous situation, but cannot bring a pet into shelter? Leaving that pet with an abusive partner is not an option for many.
Thanks to a partnership with Hill's Pet Nutrition, the YWCA can now provide foster homes for these pets, allowing survivors to seek shelter confident that their furry family members are safe as well.
The Pet Transportation Provider will commit to being on call for a set 4 hour period each week. If called, you will meet the team and the pet parent at the YWCA's location, and transport that pet safely to a predetermined, secure location.
The perfect Pet Transportation volunteer will be comfortable and experienced handling companion animals, and will be compassionate, professional, and calm with survivors. You will understand how critical confidentiality is within this role. We will provide training to work with survivors and their pets.
You will use your own insured vehicle, and we will provide kennels, leashes, collars, and other supplies you might need to safely transport companion animals.
Background check, reference check, and training required.
