The Big Event at Washburn University Needs You!

Washburn University is preparing to host The Big Event on Saturday, April 4, 2026 from 9 am-12 pm.

The Big Event is Washburn's annual community service event sponsored by the Washburn Student Government Association (WSGA). In April, Washburn students, staff, and supporters go out into the Topeka community and volunteer for few hours as a large group at different agency locations.

Your community organization could be one of those locations!

Washburn Student Government Association (WSGA) is looking for project submissions for The Big Event. In order to be a Big Event location, your site should be able to:

  • Have staff on site to coordinate volunteers on Saturday, April 4.
  • Host at minimum 5 volunteers. An average site will host 10-15 volunteers.
  • Provide required materials for your project (i.e. seeds, gloves, shovels, etc. for gardening).

If you are interested in being a location for The Big Event and hosting a group of helpful volunteers, email your project ideas by February 23, 2026 to Amya Carpenter, Special Events Director for Washburn Student Government Association, at wsga.events@washburn.edu and Monroe Hanson, Regional Volunteer Coordinator at the United Way of Kaw Valley, at mhanson@uwkawvalley.org. We are happy to help you brainstorm and develop your project ideas as well!

Please note: Submitting a project idea is not a guarantee of acceptance as a location for The Big Event at Washburn University. Your project submission will need to be reviewed and approved. You will receive follow up communications from Amya Carpenter.

Feel free to reach out to wsga.events@washburn.edu and mhanson@uwkawvalley.org if you have any questions!
