Who We Are
Tallgrass prairies once dominated the mid-section of the country ranging from Canada to Mexico. Today less than 4% of the original 40 million acres of tallgrass prairie exist, most of that in Kansas. The Grassland Heritage Foundation (GHF) is devoted to the preservation and restoration of the remaining tallgrass prairie and education about prairie ecology.
Operating primarily in Northeast Kansas, GHF was instrumental in the preservation of The Prairie Center, a 300 acre state park in Olathe KS, and is currently the owner of the 140-acre Rachel Snyder Prairie outside of Mayetta, KS. We are currently working to restore and maintain Snyder Prairie as well as provide educational and volunteer opportunities for children and adults.
Among our many activities are guided walks at area prairies and parks, workshops for adults on topics such as using native plants in home landscapes, and the Rolling Prairie Learning Lab which provides hands-on educational activities for children.
What We Do
The Grassland Heritage Foundation preserves tallgrass prairie in Northeast Kansas through education, stewardship, and land protection.
