Community Service Graduation Requirement

United Way of Kaw Valley welcomes you to your FREE tool to help you and your students find community service opportunities and track their cumulative hours!

The latest changes to the Kansas graduation requirements include an option for 40 hours of community service. As a leader in strategic volunteer management, United Way of Kaw Valley already has in place an online volunteer center powered by Galaxy Digital that will help your students find meaningful volunteer experiences and help them keep track of their time for easy reporting. For administrators, this system supports free School User Groups that allows you to track a variety of metrics, including total volunteers, total hours, locations of service and economic impact.

More than 300 local nonprofits and service groups already use this platform regularly to recruit and communicate with volunteers, and our team works with agencies to encourage frequent posting of new opportunities and to add more agencies to the platform. Volunteers used the system to log more than 4,000 hours in 2023.

United Way and its sponsors provide this platform FREE OF CHARGE to agencies and users, saving schools and districts the cost of subscribing to or purchasing and managing their own platform. Galaxy Digital (currently KawValleyVolunteers.org for all four counties served by the United Way of Kaw Valley) also has a free mobile app, the ability to verify volunteer hours, no advertisements or spam marketing, and no data sharing.

Students can sign up to receive opportunity updates from their chosen agencies, communicate directly with the volunteer coordinator, and generate a comprehensive volunteer resume that includes the economic impact of their service.

By choosing KawValleyVolunteers.org and United Way as a partner in your community service graduation requirements, you also help provide valuable data on the value and scope of volunteering in your school, your district, and your community.

Our Volunteer Engagement team would be happy to meet with you or other school representatives to demonstrate how this free digital tool can help you maximize your students’ community service experience and minimize your hassle keeping track of that service. Email Monroe Hanson mhanson@uwkawvalley.org to schedule a time.

We look forward to serving you and your students!
