Description

You could be Royalty!

An ongoing tradition of the Lawrence St Patrick's Day Parade Committee is the request for volunteers to represent the parade as Queen or King Candidates. The job for these royals is two-fold: (1) to contact local and regional businesses and organizations to collect a variety of donations for the parade's 10+/- events; (2) to help as volunteers for the events leading up to parade day.

Each year the parade committee selects one candidate to be its special representative in the pageantry of the St. Patrick's Day Parade, with the other candidates also participating as part of the Royal Court. Committee members vote for the Queen or King based upon efforts in obtaining charitable contributions, assisting with the parade activities, and overall congeniality. Choosing only one of these worthy people is a difficult task and in no way diminishes the efforts of any of the others or the pride that all we feel in their achievements.

What these candidates accomplish each year is at the very least remarkable. This is the most fun volunteer opportunity in Lawrence, and it forevermore welcomes its participant into a long-standing Lawrence tradition. All ages are encouraged to participate.
