Lawrence/Douglas County Cold Weather Response is seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals to volunteer at the Community Warming Center. As a volunteer, you will play a crucial role in providing a safe and welcoming environment for individuals seeking shelter during extreme cold weather conditions. This is an excellent opportunity to make a direct impact on your community and assist those in need. This is an overnight shelter only, from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. on dates given.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet and assist guests upon arrival to the Warming Center.
- Provide comfort and support, ensuring guests feel safe and cared for.
- Monitor the space to maintain a clean and welcoming environment.
- Help distribute blankets, food, and other essential items as needed.
- Be available to assist with check-in/check-out processes and maintain a positive, respectful atmosphere.
- Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols to ensure the well-being of all guests and fellow volunteers.
- Stay alert and ready to assist with any emergencies or needs that arise.
We will have multiple churches open for overflow. Please note the location in the title of the volunteer opportunity you are signing up for. Sites include:
