The Shawnee County Volunteer Expo is a celebration of local volunteering, as well as a tabling & recruitment opportunity for 50 community partners inside Fairlawn Plaza Shopping Center on Thursday, April 16 from 10 am-2 pm! Last year, over 400 guests met with 50 local agencies! Attendees will learn more about the services and volunteer roles available with the participating agencies. This is a come-and-go program, so we will have foot traffic throughout the day as people visit the tables and education sessions.
Volunteer Responsibilities
We need you to support United Way staff by helping with a variety of tasks:
- greet agency representatives and escort them to their tables,
- help carry in items if needed,
- read the map and help direct tabling agencies and attendees,
- welcome guests at the front desk,
- distribute swag/merch and raffle info,
- collect raffle entries,
- serve food/drink in the hospitality room to those tabling & volunteering,
- help clean up at the end of the day,
- event "runner"/other miscellaneous tasks that help the Volunteer Expo run smoothly.
If we have enough volunteers, you're encouraged to rotate taking breaks to visit the tables at the Volunteer Expo and refuel in the hospitality room.
Volunteer Shifts
Volunteer shifts will begin at 8:20 am and run until 2:20 pm.
Shifts last for two hours and begin at 8:20, 10:15, and 12:15.
Tabling nonprofits will begin arriving at 8:30 am for check in. Tear down & clean up begins at 2 pm.
Extra Info
If you do not have a United Way or Nancy Perry Day of Caring shirt to wear while volunteering, let us know your shirt size (unisex sizing) in the Response Comments section.
If you have a strong preference for a specific role (such as front desk or hospitality room), or a strong preference not to do a specific role, please indicate that in the Response Comments section.
There are ways to volunteer for folks of all ability levels. Please reach out to mhanson@uwkawvalley.org if you have any accommodation needs. If walking and standing, wear comfortable shoes!
