Volunteer with Family Promise of Lawrence: Help Local Families Achieve Housing Stability

Event/Opportunity Description:
Family Promise of Lawrence empowers families experiencing a housing crisis to achieve stabilization through community connections—and volunteers are an important part of that work.

We are looking for community members who want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of local families. Whether you have a few hours each month, want to volunteer regularly, or are looking for a one-time service project, there are opportunities to fit a variety of interests, skills, and schedules.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Preparing housing units through cleaning, organizing, and light maintenance
  • Helping families shop for household essentials at the Reitz Home Store
  • Sorting, cleaning, organizing, and restoring donated household items
  • Helping pick up or deliver donated furniture and household items
  • Supporting landscaping and outdoor beautification projects
  • Assisting with meals and hospitality at Mount Hope
  • Helping with special projects, donation drives, and community events
  • Supporting other behind-the-scenes tasks that help Family Promise serve local families

No prior experience is required for most volunteer opportunities. Family Promise staff provide guidance and training, and volunteers can choose opportunities that match their interests, skills, and comfort level.

Volunteers can serve individually or as part of a family, faith community, civic organization, business, or other community group.

Every volunteer hour helps Family Promise create safe, welcoming spaces and strengthen the community connections that help families move toward housing stability.

Desired Skills:
We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds. Dependability, compassion, flexibility, communication, and a willingness to learn are valued. Some opportunities may involve lifting, cleaning, organizing, driving, or working outdoors.

Duration:
Flexible. Opportunities range from one-time service projects to ongoing volunteer roles. Weekday, evening, and weekend opportunities are available depending on the position.

Location:
