We want to share with you an upcoming opportunity for you to volunteer. Most of the opportunities involve standing, but not manual labor. Below is a list of volunteer opportunities.
All proceeds from this event go back into our community through partner grants to health and human service agencies and racial equity grants. Examples of these include Just Food, Ballard Center, Success By Six, Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers & Big Sisters, Catholic Charities, Child Care Aware, Community Children's Center, Communities in Schools of Mid-America, Douglas County Dental Clinic, Kansas Suicide Prevention Headquarters, Heartland Community Health Center, Housing and Credit Counseling, Independence Inc., Lawrence Community Shelter, Positive Bright Start, Senior Resource Center, Sexual Trauma & Abuse Care Center, Tenants to Homeowners, and Willow Domestic Violence Center.

Unite & Take Flight Volunteer Needs – 8/27
Most Volunteer Roles are 9:00 -4:00 p.m. (or a little shorter)
Traffic Control/ Parking (at least 10 people needed)
- Checking parking passes,
- Direct to approximately 250 parking spaces in large grass field
- Or stand on concrete managing shuttle bus crowd
- Or keeping vehicles out of airport public use parking
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 6 hours
Barrier Watch/Safety Control (at least 4 people needed)
- Ability to stand for up to 6 hours
- Keep crowd off of live tarmac and runways
Flight Line Control (2-3 people)
- Collect tickets
- Help direct lines – Eurotec to give safety training
- Check-in – (possibly inside) sign waiver
Airport Terminal Control (2 people)
- Make sure event attendess stay to the west door
- Pilots access at the east door – 1 inside/1 outside
Gate entry and ticket check in (4 people)
- Collect tickets
- Keep capacity count
- Direct to activities
- Personable and efficient at moving long lines
Kid’s Activity Assistant (At least 4 people)
- Manage lines
- Assist children with crafts
- Ensure safety
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 6 hours
Static Displays and Hangar tour management (at least 4 people)
- Keep an eye on static plane displays
- Or help manage tours of Eurotec Hangar (great for older adult who needs shade)
Trash and bathroom attendants (4 people)
- Empty trash cans
- Refresh port-a-potties
- Check on needs of food trucks
