The New Roots program works with refugee farmers to develop small farm businesses by providing hands-on support and education in the field, at farmers’ markets, as well as during English classes and skill-focused workshops.
Must be willing to commit to work for a majority of the growing season (May-October), meeting weekly or every other week, as determined with the farmer.
Duties:
- Communicate with farmer and their family/interpreters to schedule volunteer days/times
- Complete various farm tasks as agreed upon with the farmer (including: weeding, harvesting, planting, mulching, etc.,)
- Follow food safety guidelines when working with produce
- Commit to volunteering weekly or bi weekly
